Furniture Moving in Pittsburgh and Washington County, Even for a Single Item
Not every move is a whole house. Sometimes it is one couch, a dresser for a new apartment or a heavy table that has to go down to the basement. 1st Step Movers are furniture movers for Pittsburgh, the South Hills and all of Washington County, including Mt. Lebanon, Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair, Washington, Canonsburg, McMurray and Peters Township, plus nearby West Virginia.
People call us for a single piece, for a few pieces going to a new place, for furniture that needs to move room to room, and for items they just bought from a store or on Facebook Marketplace and cannot fit in their car. Yes, we will move just one item. Questions first? Call us at (724) 986-9287.
Moving the whole house instead? Our local moving service covers every room with one crew and one truck. For a few pieces, send photos and both addresses and we will tell you how we would handle it.
Beds, tables and sectionals that will not fit through a door come apart and go back together at the new spot. Shrink wrap keeps drawers and doors closed and keeps dust off upholstery, and moving blankets go on everything that can scratch.
How Our Furniture Movers Handle a Small Move
A small furniture move follows four simple steps, whether it is one recliner or a truck full of pieces.
- Call or Text Photos: Tell us what is moving, both addresses and the stairs or tight turns at each end. Photos help us plan the crew and the truck.
- We Confirm the Crew and Time: We set a day Monday through Saturday and an arrival time that works for you.
- Wrap, Protect and Carry: Pieces are wrapped in blankets or shrink wrap, taken apart if needed and moved with dollies and straps while floors and door frames stay protected.
- Placed in the Right Room: Everything goes where you want it, and anything we took apart is put back together before we leave.
Why Pittsburgh Calls 1st Step for Furniture Moving
Moving furniture around here means hills, porch steps, row house doorways and narrow stairs to second and third floors. Our crews work through homes like these every week and plan each piece before it leaves the room.
We are licensed by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as a household goods mover and fully licensed and insured.

Furniture Movers FAQ
Answers to the questions people ask before hiring furniture movers in Pittsburgh and Washington County.
Yes. Single item jobs are some of the most common calls we get, from one couch to one heavy dresser. Our minimum is 3 hours, travel time included, Monday to Saturday, so there is time to wrap the piece, handle the stairs at both ends and place it exactly where you want it.
It depends on how many pieces there are, how big and heavy they are, the stairs and walk at each address, the distance between homes and whether anything needs to come apart. Call or text photos of the items and both addresses, and we will give you a quote.
Usually, yes. Measure the couch and the tightest door or stair turn and send photos. Our crews tip, angle and pivot large pieces through older Pittsburgh stairways all the time, and removing legs or cushions often buys the extra inch. If a piece truly cannot fit, we will tell you before we try.
Yes. Beds, tables, sectionals and other large pieces that will not fit through a door are taken apart at pickup and put back together at the new address. Let us know which pieces need it when you call so the crew brings the right tools and plans the time.
Furniture is wrapped in moving blankets, and shrink wrap keeps drawers and doors shut and fabric clean. Straps and dollies carry the weight, and floors and door frames are protected along the path. For art, mirrors and fragile pieces, ask about our packing service for fragile pieces.
Yes. We move refrigerators, washers, dryers and other large appliances along with your furniture or on their own. Please have them unhooked and ready before the crew arrives, with the fridge emptied and defrosted and the washer drained, so the move goes quickly.
Yes. No new address is needed. We move heavy pieces between rooms, up to a bedroom or down to a basement when you are remodeling, putting in new floors or just rearranging. The same blankets and floor protection go down as on any move.
Yes. We pick up furniture from stores and from sellers on Facebook Marketplace and deliver it to your home, carried inside and set in the room you choose. Have the pickup address, the seller's contact and the size of the piece ready when you call.
Yes, pool tables are part of our furniture moving work. Tell us the size of the table, where it sits now and the stairs or doorways on the way in and out so we can plan the crew and the time it needs.
Yes, through our furniture removal and junk removal service. It is a handy add on when a new couch is coming in and the old one needs to go. Text a photo of what is leaving for a quote.
Yes. If you have rented a truck or a container, our loading help crews will load or unload it for you. You drive the truck yourself, and we bring the blankets, straps and dollies.
